he LG V20 was first released in late-September of 2016, but rumors surrounding its successor, the LG V30, have already started rolling in. This will mark the third flagship in LG’s V
series, which, as fans of the brand have grown to expect, offers a more robust media experience when compared to LG’s other flagship, the LG G6
So far, many of the V30’s key specs have been posted
by noted leaker Ice Universe
. Combine this with rumors
from known insider Evan Blass
on Twitter, and we now have fairly decent idea of what to expect from the LG V30. From the looks of everything, LG might very well have a hit on its hands when the V30 is eventually released later this year.
The Second Screen Gets a Makeover
LG’s previous V series phones have had one major feature that set them apart: A secondary screen that sat just above the main display to give you extra information and functionality. However, a misinterpreted tweet
by Evan Blass led many to believe that the second screen wouldn’t be returning in the LG V30.
Blass has since clarified
, stating that the primary function of that second screen might be much different than what we’re used to, while implying that the screen itself should definitely be present. This is actually something I’m looking forward to seeing, since the only feature I really used on my V20’s secondary screen was ticker notifications, so it’ll be nice to see some improvements.

Snapdragon 835 Processor
According to Ice Universe
, the LG V30 will be powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor
. Qualcomm’s next-generation CPU wasn’t ready for production when LG unveiled the G6 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, so this will be one area where the V series flagship has the edge, as the 835 is a massive step up from its predecessor, the Snapdragon 821.
Dual Front & Back Cameras
The V30 is rumored to come with dual front and back cameras
for a grand total of four separate sensors. While this might sound too good to be true, it’s not that far of a stretch, as the V10 had dual front-facing cameras, and the V20 was released with dual back cameras. The third time must be the charm. With LG’s previous models having similar hardware, we can assume that one of each will be for wide angle pictures, with the others being more standard, telephoto lenses.

Upgraded Digital-to-Analog Converter
According to the Weibo leak
, the V30’s digital-to-analog converter will be even better than the one currently found on the LG V20. This isn’t hard to believe, especially since a few regions will be receiving an upgraded version of said DAC on the upcoming LG G6
. The V20’s DAC has helped the device garner plenty of acclaim from the audiophile crowd, and it’s one of the main reasons the V20 ranked at the top of our own list of the best phones for music lovers
, so an upgrade on this front can only mean good things for the V30’s sound quality.
6 GB RAM
One final tidbit offered by Ice Universe
was that the LG V30 will come with a whopping 6 GB of RAM, which is 50% more than last year’s LG V20 models. An upgrade in RAM is more than welcome, considering that the V20 currently does have an issue with redraws (this means that apps refresh more often than one would like while multitasking, especially the home screen and icons). The Snapdragon 835 is capable of handling 8 GB of RAM, so 6 GB is definitely a possibility.
